Sodium Hydroxide
Lye
Sodium Hydroxide, commonly known as lye, is an essential ingredient used in traditional cold process soapmaking. It plays a key role in saponification, the process where oils and fats are transformed into real soap.
Although lye is required to begin the soapmaking journey, it is consumed during saponification and does not remain as active lye in a properly formulated bar. After the initial soapmaking process is complete, each bar continues its journey through curing, where it develops into the finished Kaptainic soap.
Why We Use INCI Names
INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) names are the standardized ingredient names used for cosmetic labelling. They provide a consistent way to identify ingredients around the world, helping customers understand exactly what goes into every bar.
