Desolation Sound sits where the Sunshine Coast ends and the Coast Mountains begin, a deep-water sound sheltered on all sides by granite peaks and old-growth forest. The water here gets warmer than anywhere else on the BC coast, calm enough to see straight to the bottom.
Seals haul out on sun-baked rocks, and the only sound most mornings is your own paddle breaking the surface. Captain Vancouver named it "desolation" because he found no provisions here, but anyone who's been knows better. It's one of the most pristine places left on the coast. That simplicity is exactly the point of this bar.
